V for Vendetta IRL?

October 5, 2008

Alright now for those of you who haven’t seen this movie or maybe just not in a long while you might be saying to yourselfs, “What the hell is he talking about?” Well in that case just quickly check out his scene from the movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqP1aRlCZyQ . While you watch that scene just do me a quick favor and think about whats been happening lately, and you’ll see where i’m going with this whole thing.

Now if this is just a somehow a coencidence or not, I don’t really mind either way but it does bring up huge things that today we see happening. Us as a people getting pushed into things because we were scared giving the government and the president more power than they had before, in exchange for our freedom. And well of course telling us to just pretty much shut up and deal with it if you want safety, and you know what we did, even though from time to time there was very little outrage. And if your asking when this happened i’m just not talking about right now recently when the president and the secretery of the treasury asked for a 700 Billion dollar “clean” bill, clean meaning unchanged, through the use of fear of a complete and utter financial depression. They wanted us the people of the US to just shut up and give them the money. But on to what I was saying.

If your wonder when this happened, i’m talking about the patriot act, you know the one that says that the government can just tap our phones, look into out e-mails, and find out everything book we’ve checked out of a library just cause they feel we might be suspicious. We have been put into this spot over and over again where fear and terror have been used not by “terrorists” but by our oven government. Making us feel like its “unamerican” to speak out against the government, when its the most American thing that we can do, when we feel that saying anything slightly against what has been put into effect or said in the wrong way will have us tracked by the government, well maybe not you exactly but people in general.

On top of that, i’ve seen once again just how the media can be used for good, to give not just me but the masses the ideas and sense to think about these things.

Whats in a name?

September 14, 2008

Well after watching Clearks 1 for funzies I noticed that Randel actually made a great point about something that we do in society. Certian name brands become their product, and everything is suddenly known as that name brand. Actually that might be sorta jumbled up, let me give you the example as stated in the movie. Band-aid, its an adheavsive bandage but now, every single bandage is just called a band-aid and i’m also guilty of doing this myself. Makes you wonder about how the hell this happened, in fact if you think about it there are actually quite a few products that do this.

Its pretty obvious that we as people have been subjected to that much advertising, or atleast good advertising that its just become apart of our basic recognition of objects as just name brands. And in some way you can see it happening today, in the way that advertisers make sure that the name of their product is always being said and how they feel that it must be one and the same with everysingle product. A newer example that comes to mind, is the iPod. All the iPod is, is a mp3 player but Apple got the jump on the commercializing the product and maybe thats why it got the jump. Personally I don’t have an iPod so I really know this for a fact, as my Creative Zen (in my opinion leagues better than most iPods) is always being called an iPod even though they look nothing alike. Don’t believe me take alook :

  • what my Zen is compared to
  • what my Zen is compared to
  • This is my mp3 player
  • This is my mp3 player
  • Heh I think i’ve made my point and with that i’ll leave you guys to your day.

    WTF?! X-Box Live ADS?!

    September 6, 2008

Alright so the other day I went over my friends Andrew’s place after class so we could play some CoD4 with a few friends. That is when I noticed an add for a movie in the system itself that I guess Microsoft put there. Made me confused about when there heck did thing arise in games. Cause its not only on the Xbox dashboard, its even in some games. I mean in Fight Night Round 3, Burger King is freaking everywhere! You can even get the King as a trainer….seriously what is he gonna teach you? How to wear a mask and freak people the hell out.

What happened to keeping parts of the marketing and ads that you don’t want out of your games? Its in some of the most popular games, shoving in ads in Need for Speed (since underground 2), Madden (year), and Fight Night. I’ll admit its pretty devious marketing tactic to just aim at a huge auidience when you put ads in the most popular games out there. My only real complaint sides the ads being in there in the first place is the price is stays the same. I mean if your gonna shove ads in my games at least cut me a break on the price <.< I mean its a constant ads from time to time. But <.< thats enough for this weeks rant like blog thing….>.> yeah.
